1 George Washinton proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day, held on November 26, 1789.
2 He was percusaded to make it a hoilday by Sarah JOsepha Hale, author of Mary Had A LIttle Lamb.
3 It was then held sporadically until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as an annual hoilday on the last Thursday in NOvember.
4 Thanksgiving dates back to a three-day feast in 1621 shared by 50 Pilgrim Fathers and about 90 native Americans to celebrate a good harvest.
5 MOre food is eaten in the USA on the Thanksgiving Day than on any other day of the year.
6 Roosevelt's opponents said the new date was disrespectful to Lincoln and called it Franksgiving.















7 Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in Octomber.
8 ''Postprandial somnolesense'', or falling asleep after heavy meal, is also know as ''Thanksgiving food coma''.
9 Since 1947, It has been tradition for the US President to "Pardon" a turkey before Thanksgiving and save it from the feast.
10 In 1941, President Franklin D Roosevelt changed the date from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday.

A 34-year-old man named Nnamdi Ethelbert Ogidi has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police for kidnapping and raping old women in Imo State. He was apprehended on May 23, while negotiating a N20 million ransom for a victim, 74-year-old Regina Nkwocha. The suspect, popularly known as Bori, reportedly told the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the state police command, that his gang had kidnapped many persons, including 15 old women. The police were unable to arrest other members of the gang as they ran away. According reports, he said; “I am from Imo state and after dropping out of senior secondary school, I learnt how to become a mechanic. Along the line I met bad friends who initiated me into the deadly cult group known as Debam fraternity.
